SOG is Andre Ward's nickname, it literally stands for Son Of God. It was taken from a theme tune written for one of his fights, it comes from the fact we are all sons of God, and is in line with Ward's Christianity

Ward retired in 2017 at the age of 33. He stated on his website "I want to be clear – I am leaving because my body can no longer put up with the rigors of the sport and therefore my desire to fight is no longer there. If I cannot give my family, my team, and the fans everything that I have, then I should no longer be fighting."

In both Creed (2015) and Creed (2018) Andre Ward plays Danny 'Stuntman' Wheeler, a light heavyweight boxer. He is the fighter who knocked down Adonis Creed in the first movie, taking his Mustang Keys - only for Adonis to win them back in the sequel!

Ward beat Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez to be named fighter of the decade for the 2010s.

It was the 2009 Super 6 World Boxing Classic in which people started to take notice of Ward and he followed up in the next decade with his fantastic undefeated run. Winning the

2011 'fighter of the year' from both THE RING and BOXING WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA he also won 'comeback of the year' from THE RING in 2016


He has been named pound for pound best active boxer from THE RING and TBRB - as well as the best active boxer in the division by BOXREC
