The Cup Winners Cup is one of the most important victories in Manchester United history, a trophy that the real Manchester United fans know was the catalyst for the later years of success that SIr Alex Ferguson had as Manchester United manager.
This victory was the first time English clubs had been allowed to complete in European Competition since the Heysel disaster and the world was watching how they would fare, Ferguson had been under pressure to bring success back to Old Trafford after 4 trophyless years.
He had built his first great Manchester United team, with the Class of 92 waiting to break through the year after, the lessons Ferguson learnt here would help his years of success with the treble in 1999 and 2008 Champions League
